Shurooq takes journalists on Mleiha journey

Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), in collaboration with the Sharjah Media Corporation and the Sharjah Media Centre, organized a media trip for the journalists to discover the wonders of Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-tourism Project, as well as take part in various fun-filled safari rides, dune-bashing activities, live musical performances, entertainments and series engaging activities during the evening.

Shurooq, the developing body for the Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-tourism project, along with Mahmoud Rashid Deemas, Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-tourism Project Manager, Eisa Yousif, Supervisor of Archaeological Survey and Excavation Directorates of Antiques, Ajmal Hasan, Education Manager at Mleiha Archaeological Centre and staff members welcomed the journalists at Al Qasba, where their journey to discovering Mleiha began.

The trip’s program featured a series of activities enabling journalists to travel through time and experience a colourful tour of some of Mleiha’s unique historic artefacts exhibited at the Mleiha Archaeological Centre, as well familiarizing themselves with some of Mleiha’s most distinguished archaeological sites. These sites included the Mleiha Fort, and the pre-Islamic Mleiha Palace, and “The Farm house with Kitchen. A professional guide gave comprehensive descriptions on each site, and the significance they each hold during an era where man first walked the Sharjah Eastern region.

Hessah Sultan, Director of Public Relations & Communication at Shurooq, said: “We were truly pleased in hosting this amazing experience for our fellow journalists and media colleagues, who have continuously played a key role in promoting Sharjah’s economic and tourism activities to the UAE and the world. We took this opportunity to give media a closer and more personal look at what Mleiha has to offer to visitors and tourists from distinguished archaeological experiences, stunning discoveries, premium food and beverage services and thrilling activities. We were also happy to see that journalists were constantly engaged and fascinated by Mleiha’s discoveries, its dunes, Fossil Rocks and the historic heritage it held throughout thousands of years.”

Media were also taken for a thrilling off-road experience as professional 4X4 drivers pushed through Mleiha’s giant dunes and mountainous terrains, and enabled them to discover one of Mleiha’s most iconic sites called the Fossil Rock. They were then served with a unique gastronomic experience at the Mleiha Archaeological Centre, followed by a series of evening festivities, entertainments, music performances and traditional dances. Media relaxed inside a large tent during the evening, while others indulged in other activities such as hinna, falconry, horse riding, polaris experience and camel riding.

Hessah Sultan added: “Our objective from this trip is to put a strong focus on the benefits of sustaining environmental and eco-tourism projects in Sharjah. To do so, we invited distinguished journalists and media partners to experience Mleiha as a destination for eco-tourism, as well as experience it as a leisure and fun-filled destination for all types of visitors and tourists. Shurooq’s involvement in this initiative is in-line with its strategy to establish strong relationships with local media and support them with a new perspective on this new segment of tourism business.”

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the opening of the Mleiha Archaeological Centre in January 2016, which represented the first phase of Mleiha Archaeological and Eco- tourism Project. The centre allows visitors to gain deeper knowledge and insights, as well as explore different archaeological exhibitions.
