Mleiha unveils new ‘Time Machine’ family packages

Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-tourism Project, a premier tourism and leisure destination from Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), is inviting youngsters, their friends, and families to travel back in time to discover the wonders of the past in a new series of packages designed to be both fun and educational.

The adventurers can explore the remains of a 70-million-year old sea bed in the desert and step into the lives of early humans who made their way out of Africa to Mleiha during the Paleolithic period 130,000 years ago.

‘Time Machine’ Packages

In ‘Explore Lost Worlds’, visitors join Mleiha’s experts on an incredible journey into the worlds of the past, walking through several ages of ancient sea beds, discovering the graves of long dead creatures and inspecting the earth’s upper mantle as it lays exposed on the sands.

Another of the new features, ‘Sounds of the Past’, provides guests with an opportunity to look through the eyes of the first humans on Arabia, live a day in their lives, paint symbols on walls, and make the ancient tools that they used.

From the distant past to the infinite future, ‘Space Camp’ gives a glimpse deep into the night sky to unlock the secrets of the universe, helping both adults and children to understand the scale of the solar system, realise their place in the cosmos, comprehend the probability of alien life and much, much more.

Mahmoud Rashid Al Suwaidi, Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-Tourism Manager said: “Without doubt, the most effective way to learn is through interaction and simply having fun. We have always ensured that educating people about the past should be in a creative and innovative format, also it needs to be realistic and put into context so that visitors can associate with the way of life their ancestors enjoyed and often endured.

“These new packages take those lessons a step further, exploring new avenues of existence and employing new methods to discover the undiscovered. Mleiha is one of the true seats of Arabian origins and it takes visitors back through time to reveal mankind’s first footprints in the region. It is sometimes difficult to grasp that purely through textbooks, you need to have a passionate, hands-on appreciation of the reality of history and we try to provide that with a series of timelines our visitors can touch and understand.”

The recently introduced packages complement the existing array of educational activities that have earned Mleiha praise from across the world for offering one of the true tastes of time through the ages.

‘Night-Time Escape’ Packages

Mleiha’s ‘Night-Time Escape’ packages provide an after-dark adventure which includes trekking and stargazing, with private classes in natural history and astronomy as part of the experience. Visitors who wish to enjoy the wonders of the night and gain a deeper understanding of our place in the galaxy can enjoy the unique ‘Sunset Lounge’ or overnight camping with breakfast.

For the more experienced historians, Mleiha Archaeological Centre welcomes archaeologists, anthropologists, researchers and students to learn more about human development and the formation of the early society. Included in the centre are exhibits from archaeological digs, educational displays about the historical periods of the region, documentary films on Mleiha’s history and many other activities.

Mahmoud Rashid Al Suwaidi, Mleiha Archaeological and Eco-Tourism Manager  added:  “Mleiha has the facilities to accommodate any level of interests from youngsters who show an interest, to enthusiasts and professionals who have a constant thirst for more knowledge.

“With the addition of these new packages, we will hopefully encourage the early learners to develop that thirst as well.”

The ‘Fossil Fun’ and ‘Sounds of the Past’ packages last for 1-2 hours and are recommended for children aged 8 and over with parents or guardians. The ‘Space Camp’, again for children 8 and over lasts for 2-3 hrs.

In addition, the destination offers a variety of adventures and exceptional experiences  for all age categories, and assures privacy for all families’ and females’ bookings.
