Shurooq ends busy 2016 FDI promotion campaign

As 2016 draws to a close, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) looks back on a busy year of promoting business and investment opportunities in the emirate. The authority’s 2016 campaign has included participation in global business and investment events, marketing roadshows, organising a major investor event in London and hosting the Sharjah FDI Forum. Activities have included visits to countries across Europe, visits to China, India and Korea in Asia, in addition to promotions in the GCC states and other Arab countries.

High points in Sharjah’s FDI 2016 calendar include the ‘Sharjah Day’ business and investment event held in London, the Sharjah FDI Forum held in Sharjah, and the launch of ‘Invest in Sharjah’, a new brand to help position Sharjah in global markets. Sharjah Investment and Development Authority CEO, Marwan Jassim Al Sarkal, also received the ‘Middle East CEO of the Year Award’ by the prestigious Burj CEO Awards.

Organised by Shurooq, ‘Sharjah Day’ was held at the Four Seasons Hotel Park Lane in London, United Kingdom on Friday 8 April to introduce British investors and businesspersons to opportunities in Sharjah, with a specific focus on key industry sectors. Headed by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Shurooq, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority hosted a day of speeches, presentations, panel discussions in the presence of business and government leaders from the UAE and the UK.

On September 28th and 29th, more than 300 renowned financial experts, top entrepreneurs and senior global businessmen came together for the second edition of the Sharjah FDI Forum, held in collaboration with the Financial Times and fDi Magazine. The event included more than 30 industry-led panel discussions, interviews and keynote addresses, the forum reviewed foreign direct investment projects, FDI trends and developments in the Arab world and globally.

The Sharjah FDI Forum also provided the venue for the launch of ‘Invest in Sharjah’, the emirate’s new FDI promotion brand. Since its launch in September, ‘Invest in Sharjah’ has appeared in business and investment forums in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, including the inaugural edition of the Foreign Direct Investment Expo 2016 (FDI Expo) in London.

Shurooq was established in 2009 to identify, evaluate and drive tourism, industry and heritage-related infrastructure projects, whilst facilitating local and foreign direct investment in Sharjah.
