Sharjah-based Al Qabdah wins AED 400 million Dubai contract

Sharjah-based Al Qabdah Building Contracting has been awarded a AED 400 million (US$ 110m) construction contract to build a mid-market luxury residential community in the neighbouring emirate of Dubai. Alandalus Apartments, part of the world-class Jumeirah Golf Estates residential golf destination, will include 715 apartments, 95 town houses and a retail centre. The first handover of properties is expected to be in Q3 2019.

Founded some 15 years ago, Al Qabdah has become key player in the Gulf region’s construction industry. The company recently won a AED 600 million (US$ 164m) construction contract for The Pulse residential community in Dubai South. Last year, Al Qabdah was awarded the construction contract for the first stage of Al Narjis neighbourhood in Al Zahia, one of Sharjah’s largest new master-planned residential developments.

Al Qabdah’s new contract from Jumeirah Golf Estates starts with immediate effect, building six of the Alandalus development’s 8 apartment buildings (towers C-H). The community is situated on the 375 hectare award-winning residential golf development in between two internationally-acclaimed championship golf courses. Jumeirah Golf Estates has hosted the DP World Tour Championship, part of the PGA European Tour, since 2009.

According to BNC Construction Intelligence, the value of active construction projects in the GCC surged to AED 8.8 trillion in September 2017, reflecting the buoyancy of the project market and the continuing investment by the six Gulf countries in key infrastructure projects.

Meanwhile, Sharjah now has some of the largest active residential and mixed-use construction projects in the United Arab Emirates. Last month, ARADA announced the US$6.5 billion (AED 23.7b) Aljada urban residential development that will cover an area of 2.2 kilometres and house approximately 70,000 people.

Al Zahia and Tilal City developments are already at an advanced stage. Al Zahia, a AED 5 billion ($1.36b) development from Majid Al Futtaim Properties and Sharjah Holding, will cover about a 14 million square feet and accommodate about 12,000 residents. The AED 2 billion (US$ 540 million) Tilal City will cover an area of 25 million square feet and accommodate up to 65,000 residents.
