Leaders from the Middle East and Africa’s exhibition industry met in Sharjah this month for a Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) Leadership Meeting. The meeting of the UFI’s Middle East and Africa Chapter was held at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 2 June 2016 and was attended by exhibition organisers, venues and industry service providers.
The meeting was chaired by Expo Centre Sharjah chief executive officer Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, who is chairman of the Middle East and Africa Chapter the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. The Expo Centre CEO is also chairman of Arabian Gulf Chapter of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE). The Gulf region’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) market is estimated to be worth about US$1.3 billion (AED 4.8b) annually.
The UFI Leadership Meeting brought together the MEA chapter’s elected leaders to identify regional priorities, exchange ideas and develop plans for the future. The meeting also reviewed preparations for the Global Exhibitions Day celebration on 8 June 2016. Global Exhibitions Day is a joint initiative by UFI and the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE).
UFI is the global association of the world’s leading tradeshow organisers and fairground owners, including major national and international associations of the exhibition industry and has 700 members globally representing around 50,000 exhibition industry employees. The UFI’s Middle East and Africa regional office is based at Expo Centre Sharjah.
Expo Centre Sharjah was the first trade fair centre to be established in the UAE and has been hosting international fairs and exhibitions since 1977. Over the years, the Centre has become one of the region’s most popular trade exhibition venues drawing exhibitors and visitors from all around the world.
