SAIF Zone expands to meet growing demand

Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF Zone) is constructing 127 new warehouses with a total area of 561,750 square feet within the Free Zone Industrial Park Area of the zone. The new warehousing is one of a number of expansion projects planned in response to the increasing demand facilities in the zone, which houses approximately 7,000 companies.

SAIF Zone’s strategic location next to Sharjah’s international airport and within easy reach of ports on Sharjah’s West and East costs, has made it popular with import, export and distribution industries driving demand for warehousing space. Free zone companies also enjoy incentives including 100 percent foreign ownership, 100 percent repatriation of capital and profits and fast processing of government paperwork.

The free zone authority has recently completed a number of expansion projects covering an estimated 3 million square meters and bringing the total area occupied by Saif Zone to 16 million square meters. New works include new commercial offices for investors, construction of housing for free zone workers, a sewage desalination plan, paving of internal roads and other infrastructure projects.

The pre-leasing of the new pre-fabricated warehouses is already in process and the first completed units are expected to be handed over by February 2016. The new warehousing is being built to international standards and will be offered as units of 600 m2, 400 m2 and 250 m2. According to the free zone authority, the first 39 warehouses will be available by February 2016 and will be of 600 m2 area, while 34 units of 250 m2 area and 54 units of 400 m2 of area will be ready by the middle of 2016.

The Hamriyah Free Zone and SAIF Zone combined accommodate about 13,500 companies from 157 countries representing a wide range of industries from petroleum and plastics, to engineering and construction to food, import/export and logistics services.

Last month Sharjah government also announced the launch of Al Saja’a Industrial Oasis, a new 14 million square foot industrial estate also near Sharjah International Airport.
