Shurooq & Air Arabia join hands to promote Sharjah

Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Air Arabia (AIRARABI:DFM), the largest low-cost carrier operator in the Middle East and North Africa, have signed an MoU to promote Sharjah’s strategic projects and brands across the globe.

The MoU, signed by Mr Adel A. Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer, Air Arabia, and HE Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, outlines a strategic partnership through which the two organisations will encourage, promote and facilitate investment and development participation among their business communities to the benefit of the emirate of Sharjah.

Sharjah-headquartered Air Arabia has become an international success story and pioneered in low cost air travel in the Middle East. Since Air Arabia’s inaugural flight took off from Sharjah International Airport in October 2003, the airline has expanded to serve 104 destinations from four operating hubs in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE; Casablanca in Morocco and Alexandria in Egypt. The carrier will soon launch operations of its fifth hub in Amman, Jordan.

Under the MOU, Sharjah’s business projects and brands will be promoted in the destinations Air Arabia flies to. Shurooq will also offer Air Arabia customers the opportunity to explore leading tourist and recreational destinations in Sharjah such as Al Qasba, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Montazah – Amusement and Water Park, The Flag Island, and Heart of Sharjah, through Air Arabia agents and their representatives in local, regional, and international markets.

Shurooq was established in 2009 to enhance Sharjah’s appeal as an investment, tourism, and business destination, whilst continuing to develop the emirate’s distinct Arab and Islamic identity. An independent government entity, Shurooq facilitates partnerships and connects investors, corporations, and entrepreneurs with the right opportunities. The Authority drives a year-round calendar of worldwide trade and investment promotion activities.
