The University of Sharjah (UoS) and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) have launched the 5th edition of the Sharjah Chamber Award for Innovators.
Featuring eight new scientific fields in the categories of innovative projects and specialised academic research, the AED100,000-award ($27,224) is targeting the creative and innovative students from UAE universities and grade 12 students from the Emirate of Sharjah.
This was stated in a virtual press conference in the presence of Prof Hamid MK Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the SCCI, Dr Salah Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, UoS, Dr Amal Al Ali, Chairman of the Award Organising Committee, and a number of deans and SCCI board members, as well as representatives from the local media.
Commending the UoS’s efforts in organising this important scientific award, Al Owais said: “Sharjah chamber’s award for innovators has become an integral part of our strategy in the SCCI to motivate our students to unleash their creative ideas, through our partnership with the University of Sharjah, this lofty edifice chaired by HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, whose views and directives has always been the source of inspiration in the fundamentals of this award.
“Our today’s gathering to launch the new edition of Sharjah Chamber’s award for innovators emphasises the SCCI’s commitment to playing its role in stimulating the creative and innovative ideas of our youth to turn it into leading investment projects,” he added.
Dr Al-Haj said he was pleased with the remarkable development of the award and the enthusiasm of students to take part in, lauding the SCCI’s constant support and care for the social programmes, initiatives, and activities for faculty members and students.
Dr Al-Haj underlined that the UoS has embraced creativity and innovation and it is always keen to provide all the support for the students.
Dr Al Ali made a presentation on the fields, categories, and standards of the Award, pointing out that this year’s edition is featuring 8 scientific fields, including massive data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and smart systems.
Students can submit their applications alongside a summary of their creative ideas by visiting the UoS’s website and click on the Award link. After the evaluation process, the qualified students to the next stage will join an education journey to the principles design thinking through a number of mentorship sessions
