Shurooq and Khorfakkan City forge ahead with major projects

Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Khorfakkan Municipality are to accelerate their plans for substantial new tourist destinations, broadening Shurooq’s portfolio and adding to Khorfakkan’s domestic and overseas hospitality and tourism appeal.

In a high-level meeting with H.E. Marwan Bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO, Shurooq, H.E. Fawzia Rashid Al Qadi, Director-General of Khorfakkan City Municipality, reaffirmed the municipality’s full cooperation, collaboration and support to the groundbreaking developments.

The projects are being developed in partnership with the Khorfakkan City Municipality and additional government entities in Sharjah, working together to integrate their efforts for unique results and deliverables.

Al Jabal Resort, Chedi Khorfakkan, Khorfakkan Flag Pole, Khorfakkan Corniche and hotels and resorts are either already underway or due to begin their first phases of development as part of the emirate’s AED 5 billion investment in tourism by the year 2018.

Al Jabal Resort, Chedi Khorfakkan is to be a mixed-use development with a hilltop fort, containing restaurants, spa, gym, business facilities and reception and 170 suites with seaside views.

The gigantic Khorfakkan Flag Pole is a symbol of Sharjah’s commitment to the emirate as a whole and a landmark and investment opportunity in its own right. As the UAE flag flies high 75 metres above the ground, the attraction heralds the entrance to Khorfakkan City and a new destination with endless possibilities.

And the Khorfakkan Corniche Development project aims to redesign the 3-km stretch of beach by providing high-quality public amenities, a range of activities and a variety of dining and hospitality options. Due to the size of the project, the development has been separated into two main stages – the Southern Corniche (Stage 1) and the Northern Corniche (Stage 2).

Al Sarkal said: “It is not just Sharjah as a city we are developing and promoting as an international destination, it is our mission to make Sharjah as an emirate a cultural and tourist hub. Khorfakkan has enormous potential as an attraction and increases the options we can offer our visitors.

“There are so many aspects, intricacies and individual qualities throughout Sharjah. We must capture and identify those in order for our guests to benefit from their differences and by diversifying Sharjah’s existing tourism and hospitality markets we can position Khorfakkan as a potential central destination in the UAE.”

HE Fawzia Rashid Al Qadi, Director-General of Khorfakkan City Municipality affirmed that the Municipality’s partnership and vision with Shurooq supports the complete directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council Ruler of Sharjah. These directives focus on the importance of integration and cooperation among an array of entities across Sharjah’s public sector, to sustain the continuity of delivering premium services and experiences to both Sharjah citizens and tourists.

She said: “The Khorfakkan City Municipality is known for its array of innovative and dynamic services which seeks to establish a promising launch pad for the most premium and high-end residential, commercial and tourism projects in the city. These services also reflect on our objectives as a government department servicing both citizens and investors, as well as families and tourists, positioning the city as one of the most desirable tourism destinations in the emirate of Sharjah.”

Al Qadi added: “The Khorfakkan developments also reflect the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, which focusses on promoting every aspect of Sharjah’s culture and heritage across its eastern, central and western regions.”

The port of Khorfakkan on the east coast has already proved its potential with 28 luxury cruise ships expecting to be welcomed by the end of 2016/2017 season, disembarking some 72,000 tourists. Among the vessels expected, three international cruise ships will make their maiden calls.
