CEO appointed to head AUS Enterprises

American University of Sharjah (AUS) has appointed Hussain Al Mahmoudi as Chief Executive Officer of AUS Enterprises, a new holding company mandated to develop revenue-generating commercial activities for AUS via special purpose vehicles. AUS Enterprises was established by Amiri decree in November 2015.

The appointment of the new CEO was approved by the AUS Board of Trustees, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah. AUS Enterprises is fully owned by the university and is exempted from all taxes.

AUS Enterprises was formed to help strengthen the financial resources of AUS through special purpose vehicles, including the management and execution of investment projects that support the university and strategic initiatives in the academic, research, technology and real estate sectors.

Located in Sharjah’s University City, American University of Sharjah was founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and is a not-for-profit, independent, institution of higher education formed on the American model. The University offers 26 majors and 46 minors at the undergraduate level, plus 14 master’s degrees. AUS is ranked 7th in the 2015 QS University Rankings for the Arab Region,

The new AUS Enterprises CEO, Hussain Al Mahmoudi, was formerly the Director General of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and brings experience in developing technology and media clusters, oil and gas industry knowledge, plus local and global business experience. Al Mahmoudi has also contributed to the development of several initiatives including efforts to empower young leaders, encourage sustainable development, foster social responsibility and develop public-private sector partnerships.
