SICC 2014 opens with Clusters of Light

This year’s celebrations to mark the Sharjah Islamic Culture Capital 2014 were officially inaugurated yesterday by Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah at a musical production about the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. The Clusters of Light operetta was staged by Sharjah in an effort to encourage awareness and understanding about Islam.

Clusters of Light was the first to take place at the newly completed 7,238 square metre amphitheatre on Al Majaz Island. Written by Saudi poet Dr Abdul Rahman Al Ashmawi and composed by the Bahraini artist Khalid Al Shaikh, the star-studded musical epic narrated the life of the Prophet Mohammed from pre-Islam and through stages of his life.

Clusters of Light is being staged for four days at the Al Majaz Islandamphitheatre, after which a tour of Arab cities is planned. The musical event is one of a wide range of projects, programmes and events planned for Sharjah’s Islamic Culture Capital 2014 year.
